Fire district board backs 10-year pact, wins state ambulance license

Other Committee · Meeting of July 29, 2026

LENOX — Stockbridge/West Stockbridge fire board advances 10-year governance pact, reports ambulance license win. The joint oversight board voted unanimously to send a revised 10-year Interim Municipal Agreement to both towns' select boards, locking in Stockbridge and West Stockbridge as the only voting "governing communities" while Lee, Lenox and Richmond remain fee-for-service customers with no board seat. A deputy fire chief told members the department "hit a home run" in a state review and was handed its ambulance license on the spot, clearing it to run a non-transporting unit while it staffs up for a Type 1 transporting ambulance due in January.

The department also applied for a $214,000 federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant for medical supplies. Board member Marie called the revised contract language "smoother," while a colleague credited a town official named Kathleen with pushing to add a community member at-large to the board.
