Lenox Select Board elects new chair, advances school bus camera law to town meeting

LENOX — May 20, 2026 — Lenox Select Board advances school bus camera law and elects new chair at May 20 meeting. The board unanimously voted to send local adoption of Chapter 399 of the Acts of 2024 — a state law authorizing stop-arm cameras on school buses to record illegal pass-by violations — to town meeting for a resident vote, with board members noting that the camera cost would be folded into the next school bus contract RFP, expected around January 2027, and borne by the vendor rather than the town. The board also welcomed newly elected member Jared Weber, thanked departing 15-year member David Roche, and elected Mary Beth as board chair by unanimous vote. In other business, the board approved manager changes at Gateways Inn and the Lions Club of Lenox and cleared a consent agenda that included three one-day liquor licenses, a one-day entertainment license for the Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum's August 1 fundraiser, a temporary sign permit for the Berkshire Arts Center, and the appointments of Dennis Arsenault to the Affordable Housing Trust and Aaron Hebert-Smith to the Community Center Board.
